Upgrading Windows 7 for FREE

January 14, 2020… it’ll be here before you know it! Are you still running Windows 7 in your business or at home?

In many cases, you can upgrade these systems on your own. While the official offer for the free upgrade ended some time ago, it’s still available, and here are a couple of links to help:

Here are some guidelines to keep in mind:

  • The newer your Windows 7 PC, the more worthwhile the upgrade. If your PC is close to five years old (or older), it may not be worth the effort.
  • In many cases, if your PC is on the borderline (for instance 3.5 years old and running a little slow) it’s possible to simply upgrade the memory to make the upgrade worthwhile.
  • About 15% to 20% of these free upgrades are unsuccessful, so you’re taking some risk. If the upgrade fails, you’ll need to reinstall the operating system from scratch.

The Windows 10 Update Assistant can help you update your system to the latest operating system.
