NetEffect, as Founding Member, Announces iWARP Consortium
Leading Computing Hardware, Software, Companies Band to Refine RDMA Products at University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory
Austin, Texas. – December 13, 2004 - NetEffect, a leader in developing high-performance networking solutions, today announced its participation, as a founding member, in a consortium of companies committed to refining new remote data memory access (RDMA)-over-Ethernet products, and ensuring their interoperability. The group will conduct standards-compliance testing at the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL).
As a founding member of the UNH-IOL iWARP Consortium, NetEffect will contribute to a test bed that will act as the industry's primary reference point for furthering interoperability between multiple hardware and software manufacturers' products. The consortium will produce detailed test suites comprising an industry-wide metric for evaluating industry-standards conformance.
RDMA was developed in response to the growing demand for increased memory bandwidth needed to support high-performance parallel, clustering and grid computing. iWARP is a protocol standard that enables RDMA to run over Ethernet networks via TCP/IP, the common transport mechanism underlying today's networks and the Internet. IWARP RDMA allows direct, server-to-server, memory access avoiding unnecessary data copies and preserving memory bandwidth. Additionally, iWARP enables this communication to occur directly from application to application, bypassing each server's operating system (OS). Because no OS interaction is required CPUs spend less time managing the network, enabling more processing power for applications and more efficient use of computing resources.

About the University of New Hampshire's InterOperability Laboratory
Established in 1988, the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL) is a non-profit organization that offers comprehensive interoperability and conformance-based testing through 19 technology-based groups, called consortiums. Test solutions created at the UNH-IOL offer a set of methods to increase interoperability through protocol operations, signaling, point-to-point and multi-system scenarios. For more information, visit the UNH-IOL website at: www.iol.unh.edu.
